The symbolism of Incense
Incense is often thought of as being a good smelling aroma and indeed it is. The language God speaks in is revealing that there is more to incense than just pleasing fragrance entering God's nostrils. The word for incense in ancient Hebrew is represented by images of a rising sun (son), surrounding target, and a head. The emphasis is most apparent with the sunrise. Holy Incense and smoke from burnt offerings are actually a manifestation of the Son of God in your life. Yes, that's right, Yashua is rising in the form of incense when we are crucified with Christ. Paul writes in Galatians 2:20, "I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. Christ not only lives in you but rises in you as you let him lead and guide your life. We have discussed that altars provide burnt offerings and sacrifices. There is also an altar of incense. In both instances, smoke is produced and is offered up to the Father for atonement. Incense, smoke, and even a cloud are compared to Jesus. He is a Son/Sun rising up in your life (the pictograph provided in the Ancient Hebrew word incense) and the word "cloud" is represented by the images of an eye and a seed. This is interpreted as "I see Yashua, the seed, and the Word." This is why we read in Hebrew 12:1 that we are "Surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses." Jesus went up in a cloud and has come back in a cloud. If you are witness to who Jesus is, guess what, you are producing a Cloud of Glory and a Pleasing Incense/Smoke unto the Father.
