Are you an Altar unto God?
When we look at the concept of an altar in the old testament, we see that there is an activity involved. The Altar is more associated with the act of giving a burnt offering or a sacrifice. First I will look at the pictographs provided for the word "altar." We are given images of a plow, house, and wall. These pictures come from the Hebrew letters Zayin, Bet, and Chet. An altar is made by plowing the earth (the same as plant seeds, it's all about the seed/WORD), then building a house for that seed, and finally putting a wall of protection around the house with the seed. How can you become a living altar? In my youth, I remembered being taught to pray, dig, and plow the seed of God's Word. As we plow and plant God's Word in our life, we are making ourselves into a living altar. As we die to ourselves and decrease, Christ rises through us! John 3:30 says "He must increase; I must decrease." Also, the apostle Paul confessed as a living altar in Galatians 2:20, "I am crucified with Christ, no longer do I live, but Christ lives through me." Romans 8:36 reminds us that "we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Why would we be compared to a lamb or a sheep? Is this not the offering and sacrifice? I tell you the Father wants us to offer our lives to him as a living sacrifice, declaring "Not my will, but your will be done!" As we die to ourselves and let Christ Jesus arise in us, there is a sweet incense going up before the Father, in it, he is well pleased. As we manifest Christ, we become a living altar!
